There's actually no crisis at all, we simply wanted a cheap, non-flashy, fun toy to drive around Annapolis on nice summer and fall days. Since our boat is out of the water this summer, we're kind of bummed out. Here's the email Chris sent to his friends today that sums up our purchase of "Ruby" quite nicely:
"I guess we are (maybe just I am) having a midlife crisis...hopefully just a quarter or third life crisis if I am lucky. Anyway, to re-invigorate ourselves and to recapture some of our youth before it is lost forever we've been thinking about getting a convertible. How cliché?
So Em and I have been looking at old BMW 325's for a couple months now. We weren't sure if we were actually going to do anything or if this was another one of our foolish dreams that we only talk about and never do. Also we didn't think a reasonable car would show up in the area and I was having a hard time with the gut wrenching idea of getting rid of my beloved Jeep because we don't want to have 4 cars (but it has to go sometime).
We found a 1990 325i with 115K miles on it, 5 speed manual, in Northern Virginia on Monday for $3000. The guy was the third of three very meticulous previous owners. Kelly Blue book says that this is about $150 overpriced for excellent condition, but seriously $150?
Anyway, we drove down there last night and test drove it and it was great. New tires, new convertible top, cold AC, perfect paint job, great interior. It drove straight and smooth and shifted like a dream. The only problem is that the driver's seat adjustment mechanism has become disengaged somehow and currently will not pitch back. We brought it home with us last night and we were giddy like school girls and took turns driving it around the neighborhood."
Here are some pics of the new (to us) car...now we need to find a car seat base for Mr. Luke!
